<p>Sie war schon im <a href="Antike" title="Antike">antiken</a> Griechenland bekannt und wird nach <a href="Nikomedes_(Mathematiker)" title="Nikomedes (Mathematiker)">Nikomedes</a> als <i>Konchoide von Nikomedes</i> bezeichnet.<sup id="cite_ref-Walz_2-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-Walz-2"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>2<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Ein anderer Name ist <i>Muschelkurve</i>.<sup id="cite_ref-duden_1-1" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-duden-1"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>1<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup> Der Name leitet sich daher ab, dass der <a href="Funktionsgraph" title="Funktionsgraph">Graph</a> den zwei Schalen einer Muschel ähnelt.
